For most purposes process definition does not require complicated flow
charting or software tools.
The aim is to produce the simplest picture that makes the management of the
process clear.
With a little help your own staff will readily identify how things happen
today, what does not work well, what is wasting effort and where changes can
be made.
Defining a process with the people who currently do it nearly always
generates a list of things to improve.
It is then possible to define and prioritise an improvement plan to change
the process flow, remove uncertainties, clarify ownership and improve the
working tools.
